Open call for participation at the Festival has ended – Artistic Vibrance in the Suburbium

Artists from across Serbia and the region will perform at this year’s Street Musicians Festival in Novi Sad, after being chosen from the open call, launched in March and lasting until 1st June. A total of 24 performers, soloists or art troupes from Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, and several other European nations, together with a selection of artists from all around the world, will present themselves to the festival audience from 1st to 3rd September, as part of the new festival concept in the Lower Town (Suburbium) of Petrovaradin Fortress.

Held for the 16th consecutive time, the Street Musicians Festival will this year also stay true to its usual practice of making the core program from young, independent regional artists, when they get their chance to present their program to a wider audience, and thus, ultimately gain their affirmation. From among a hundred applications received through the open call, the Festival’s Art Council chose authentic artists who will best fit the new, innovative Festival ambience.

This year the local flavor will be represented by a diverse fusion of genres. Among others, this includes Rebel Brass with their dazzling brass section, the Gipsy jazz trio Hot Club of Novi Sad, the Yupidu quartet, indie pop band Plastic Trees, as well as original street musicians straight off the streets of Novi Sad – Frame orchestra, La Sed Gitana and the cimbalom-cello duo Šandor and Irenka Rothele, but also the very young, and very talented ska band Deep Steady, Milan Korać guitar trio, one-man punk band Losing to You and Triangle trio from Petrovaradin.

The wide spectrum of Vojvodina’s scene will be represented by the singer-songwriter Kim Tamara from Šid, guitar player Đusi Kovač from Novi Bečej and the artistic workshop Telo kao instrument (Body as an Instrument) from Sremski Karlovaci. Arriving to the Festival from Belgrade is singer/guitarist Goran Miljković, then Katarina and Ljubica trio with piano, violin and vocals at their side, as well as the enticing band – Endi Vorhol, whose entire set list is dedicated to the father of pop art. Croatia will this year be represented by the attractive instrumental duet Aquarela Maris from Šibenik, and the one-man garage blues band full of loops and a harmonica Harp Explosion from Vinkovci. The sound of Italian swing arrives to the Suburbium with the Frateli Mareli trio from Bologna, while the masked duet Mouse n Monkeyz from Bucharest will feature their twist on contemporary electronic music. And as for a truly spectacular juggling attraction, we can thank Andrej Tomše from Berlin, and Arlekin from Skopje. Performances of this participants at the Festival of street musicians has enabled this year’s competition for performers friend – MTS.

The Art Council of the Street Musicians Festival based its choice for this year’s artistic program by responding to the specific surroundings of Petrovaradin’s Gradić, while still preserving the core values of street art which it represented during the last 15 editions of the event. The chosen performers will, as per usual for this kind of art form, perform in the streets, squares and other spatial entities, without pompous stages, and in direct contact with visitors, while the entire program will once again be – completely free.

The Street Musicians Festival is organized by the Art Association “Inbox” from Novi Sad, with the support of the City of Novi Sad, Tourist Organization of Novi Sad, the Embassy of the United States of America in Belgrade, MTS and Generali osiguranje Serbia.
