Aleksandar Carić Zar (Portugal/Italy/Serbia)

Aleksandar Carić Zar

A street artist renowned across the world, a citizen of Novi Sad with a permanent address in Portugal, and an occasional one in Italy, multi-instrumentalist, and an all-round creative artist, Aleksandar Carić Zar will perform on the balcony in Štrosmajer Street in the Suburbium of Petrovaradin Fortress at the very start of the second day at this year’s Street Musicians Festival. By performing his compositions with only mandolin and voice, he will shed light to the romantic side of our Baroque Gradić, and the potential for its future renovation and awakening.

The ever-popular Zar is an unavoidable name on the world map of street art. A participant of all major world buskers’ festivals, he is also the friend and partner of most other members from this branch of culture, and the creator of numerous artistic projects from the same domain, but beyond as well. Born in Novi Sad with a respectable career as a poet, photo-artist and musician, since the fall of Yugoslavia, he has lived, first in Rome, where he actively takes part in numerous musical projects and street theatre. During the last years, he has actively made ties with Portugal, where he successfully lead the project Orquestra Criativa, based on art education, a creative approach to creating instruments out of discarded materials, and performances by the large amaure-citizen ensemble. Present at the Street Musicians Festival from the very beginning, he is the main program manager for the foreign program, and a consistent-casual participant. Zar is the epiphany of street art and its symbol in the region, so his performance definitely shouldn’t be missed.
