Igor Antić (Paris/France)
An audio-visual project titled “Preobličavanje” (Metamorphosis) by Igor Antić will become yet another permanent exhibition at this year’s Street Musicians Festival. The two and a half tall sculpture of a red star, sickle and hammer, beside a visual message it sends, will simultaneously serve as a musical instrument played by the percussionist Filip Đurović from Novi Sad during the exhibition.
Antić is a visual artist born in Novi Sad in 1962, but has almost for three decades now, been working in Paris. Upon listening to a piece of music, he is primarily interested in the connection between sound and the instrument’s form which creates that sound, more precisely the “aesthetic presentation” of the instrument, an integral part of a musical entity. At the center of his work “Preobličavanje” are the symbols of socialism and communism, which have received the form of a musical instrument, while the goal of the audio performance, awaiting all Festival visitors, will be an effort at answering the question what sounds would best fit the aesthetic presentation of those instruments, so they don’t become a mere musical reproduction from socialist history, as well as what new connection can be created when this musical instrument is played.
