Jenő Lisztes (Budapest/Hungary)

Jenő Lisztes

Cimbalom as a traditional Hungarian national instrument sounds embedded into almost each recognizable melody of this Pannonia people. However, when it finds itself in the hands of a great master such as Jenő Lisztes, its magic transcends local backdrops and conquers new scapes, primarily in jazz, what will ultimately be revealed to all visitors of Petrovaradin’s Suburbium.

Only 30 years old, Lisztes stands as the leading cymbalist of our time, actively accompanied by this instrument since he was four, symbolizing the third generation of cimbalom players. Equally educated in classical, and original Roma music, he is an alumnus of “Franz Liszt” Musical Academy in Budapest. From 2006, he has been a band member of the most renowned ethno-jazz violinist in the world, Robbie Lakatos, while simultaneously nurturing hisJenő Lisztescimbalom project dedicated to jazz improvisations. He successfully performed at the most prestigious concert halls around the world, like Carnegie Hall in New York and Musikverein in Vienna, while his music also found its way onto the big screen with Hollywood’s blockbuster “Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows”, directed by Guy Ritchie. His performance at the Street Musicians Festival was made possible with support from the Hungarian Embassy in Belgrade.
